I take offense to your criticism of the people in the region. As with your other postings, I think you are grossly misinformed. Have you ever thought that you are just like everyone else who comes out there to them wanting to help them? People become confident by solving their own problems. Were you expecting to see a bunch of happy noble savages who can guide you spiritually and help you solve your spiritual crisis when a lot of the people back home have a lot of other things on their mind, e.g. how to survive? Were you looking to fulfill your “Dances with Wolves” fantasy and it got crushed? Were you expecting to see a bunch of noble savages who’d cry when they see trash on the ground? Just what were you expecting to find on the Pine Ridge reservation? Did you really take the time to do your research and find out about the realities of the region?

    Hi Feef

Again thanks for taking the time to reply.

I didn’t just come to Pine Ridge to make the movie, I’ve been out here for years and it was due to that time here that I decided to relocate a movie I was going to make there.

Actually a lot of my friends on the Rez are as frustrated as I am about how the screenings went and are trying to drum up audiences. I phoned one location to cancel a screening due for tomorrow and I was talked out of it as the person it was arranged with was so eager to try to make it happen.

But I’d have people on Pine Ridge asking when can we see it, when are you going to show it and I’ve set a month aside to come here and invested more money in creating a mobile cinema system so I could bring it around the communities so it wasn’t just the rest of the world that was showing the film.

I’m not out here for some spiritual fix though I know the exact type you mean. I am well aware of the history of Pine Ridge and how that impacts a lot of things there. But also people are people, and I’m disappointed to have invested so much time and energy trying to make something happen and to have had so little support.

To me the language you use creates more of a separation between people as it sounds like you throw people into on the Rez into one camp and those out-with into another. To me my friends are my friends where-ever they are from and wherever I am people I know relate to me the same way. But collectively the screenings received little support regardless of the interest expressed before going there and because I am a human being and have emotions I was naturally disappointed and expressed it. And as I said friends I have on Pine Ridge who are also trying to bring more things onto the Rez were disappointed to. And we need to talk about things to move them forward. To me it is such a shame to hear a successful singer on the Rez tell me that she does all her concerts elsewhere because of lack of support in her own community.

Anyway I’m sorry if my video blog came across the way that it is as it feels like you are misinterpreting where I am coming from. But friends are honest with each other and to me it would be patronizing if I was anything other than honest. Just ask the restaurant owner who just asked my honest opinion on the food he served me tonight.

This video is the promo of a feature doc I’ve been working on about the history of Pine Ridge in the words of those that live there.

    Best wishes.

Hey Feef, I know you are right, people need to do their own thing and not be patronized or “helped”. But then again, there may be some problems of motivation in general that people on the inside would admit to but that would be anti-PC to admit to anyone outside. Thus reacting so violently to someone who is just being honest.
